The Stampscapes® 101: 14-Step Thumbnail Grid, Lesson XX
Rose in Dawn

Sedge Bank (right)-233F, Sedge Bank (left)-234F, Sedge Cluster-250E were colored --with pens-- in Marvy Pine Green #72, Dark Brown #18, Ochre #13, Manganese Blue #36. I wanted a variety of hue and values to start off with so I blended these colors on the stamps before making the impressions.

Tall Grass sm.-254B was stamped on the right side of the scene and Sedge Filler-251C was stacked over the existing impression to create distant grassy areas. Color used was Marvy Pine Green #72.

Shagbark Hickory" 242G and Shagbark Hickory sm.-241E were stamped in many colors including Marvy Pine Green #72, Marvy Light Green #11, Brown #6, and Brilliant Yellow #43. Variations in hue and tone turn the branches and leaves.

Shagbark Hickory sm.-241E was stamped out in a Marvy Pine Green #72 and Dark Brown #18 upside down to create reflections in the water. Before stamping them out each time, I made one impression of them on a piece of blotter paper to take half of the ink off so the next impression --on to the card-- would be a light one. Maple Trio-240B was stamped out in Pine Green.

The Tonal Applicator-084E was used in a Ranger Industries (R.I.) Sea Shells line Tropical Raspberry. This is a very light hue and a good one to start the color layering process.

With a Colorbox Stylus Tool, a R.I. Sea Shells Conch Shell was used in the grass and sky

Stylus Tool: A Marvy Pale Green #34 was used in the grass area.

Stylus Tool: Marvy Light Green #11 and Ochre #13 were used in the grass.

Stylus Tool: Then to deepen the shadows in some of the grass, especially under the trees, I used the tool in a Marvy Pine Green #72.

Stylus Tool: Marvy Ochre #13 was used in the grass, water, and sky area. R.I. Adirondak Pesto was used to deepen the shadows in the grass.

Stylus Tool: R.I. Sea Brights Bikini Pink was used in the sky and water. A Marvy Brown #6 was used to add richness to the grass area.

Stylus Tool: A Marvy Pale Violet #31 and a R.I. Adirondak Eggplant were used toward the top of the sky and water. This step knocked down the hot colors out of these areas that stood out too much.

Doe-229A was stamped in a Marvy Dark Brown #18. Oak Branch-203G was added in a Marvy Black #1. In the water area, Water Pattern sm.-231C was stamped in a Marvy Pale Violet #31.

Add sparkle and highlights to your scene with Milky Gel Rollers. In this case Pentel pastel colors in white, blue, green, and orange were used. These colors related to the color scheme used with the dye based inks so I used them here with the gel pens. These dots really pick up the grass modulations by putting highlights on the tops of the mounds. Overall, this added texture (dots) helps to create continuity between the different stamps and the different sections (grass, trees, sky and water). For added depth and mood mist/fog was added using Colorbox Frost White and Brilliance Moonlight White pigment ink pads applied in a dry dabbing cotton swab technique. Very thin layers were built up gradually. Let one layer dry and go back into it with more if you want a more opaque area of white.
