Lesson: Cascading Falls Lake
The magic of the water. 4.25" x 5.5" glossy card stock

Cascading Falls Lgwas stamped in Marvy #1 Black.

The Falls were masked with a ripped paper towel and Pine Island was stamped. Note that part of the falls are showing from behind the paper towel. I leave some of the images showing from behind masks. This is to try and prevent blank spaces in between the different images. I'd rather have things overlapping than to have a fragmented scene.

Falls and a background island.

Water Pattern was stamped in the water using Marvy #60 "Salvia Blue".

Ranger Sea Shells "Cloudy Blue" was sponged into the scene using a Colorbox Stylus Tool.

Marvy #60 "Salvia Blue" was sponged into the scene. With this color I started avoiding some areas such as the falling water and some areas of the water that I wanted to remain lighter.

Using a Tombow pen I began to build up some of the shadows and streaks across the lake. There wasn't a color or number listed on the pen so I don't know what color it is, but it was very, very light in value and grey.

Volumes starting to show on the rocks and variation brought about by streaks in the water are formed.

I liked the way the pen worked so I started adding additional tone to the trees and grass in the scene with a pale green Tombow Pen.

More tone was added using a Marvy #41 brush marker. This color is a pale grey blue. It's easy to add these colors to the scene without it looking too harsh when very pale colors are built upon each other. Don't start off too dark.

Marvy #60 Salvia Blue are being added as streaks in the water.

Marvy #59 pink was added to the water for variation and richness. Where the pink overlapped blue it appears as though the color there is violet because dye based inks are transparent.

Bare Branch Lg is being stamped into the scene from different angles using a Marvy #1 Black.

Foliage is being stamped on to the bare branches to foliate them. Impressions are in black.

Colorbox pigment ink "Frost White" is being dabbed into the scene using a Q-Tip or cotton swab. I wanted to add a misty touch to the base of the waterfalls.

Highlights are being added to the scene using a white gel pen.

Ducks in Formation is being stamped in multiple impressions using black ink. Note: do not press this image too hard as you want to prevent it from blobbing as it's a small image.

Green in the Greys.
