"Snowy Pines" on Small Round Stampbord by Kevin Nakagawa, CA 2006

Dye based inks on a small round Stampbord from the mics. rounds/ovals pack. Time: 15 minutes.

1) Talk about an easy tile. Take a pale blue stamp pad and color the entire Stampbord with it. Using a sponge, apply a medium value blue to the entire surface except for an area about the size of a US quarter. Using a dark blue ink, apply in a similar fashion except leave a US fifty cent area. In other words, with each progressively darker color we keep the ink more to the perimeter.

2) Using black ink, stamp Twisting Pine 222F twice.

3) With a scratch knife, I removed ink off the tops of the branches and revealed either the white of the Stampbord or the lighter blue layers underneath the darker layers. By doing this we've given the image the appearance of having fallen snow collected on it's branches.

4) Stars were "cut" out into the Stampbord by placing the knife vertically blade side down on to the board and doing a little "twirl". The North Star was created by scratching very thin cross hair lines and some intermediate lines emanating from a single twirled star.

5) I didn't think there was enough contrast around the perimeter of the board "containing" the trees so I sponged on one additional color to the perimeter --black.
