Snow Flurry by Kevin Nakagawa, CA 2007

Scene dimensions: 4.25" x 5.5" on light blue metallic paper.

Note: Black dye based ink was streaked into the paper. The metallic paper used here is slightly resistent to the dye based ink so it takes a little while to soak into the paper so the graceful streaks came easy without leaving heavy marks. When applied the ink seemed to dry very very light. That being said, it took quite a few streaks/coats of the black ink in the areas where the streaks seem the darkest. Tree tops from Pines and Rocks 195G were stamped in a black Versafine ink. The Versafine was darker than the Marvy so I went with that. This ink didn't dry very well on the metallic paper so I sealed it with a clear acrylic spray. A clear fixative would work fine or you can try and heat set the ink if you run into the same drying issue.

From there, a Dr. Ph. Martin's "Bleed Proof White" was used to create a splattered texture across the scene. Bleed Proof White is a paint that comes in about a 1 oz. jar and it has an opacity to it that is designed to prevent the bleeding of whatever you're using it over such as inks or paint. A way that you can create this splattered surface is to take a stiff paint brush and, with paint loaded in the brush, run your thumb across the bristles causing them to spring back and spray ink on to the card. A toothbrush is a great applicator for this.

Some of the same bleed proof white was then used on a small paint brush to apply snow to the pine tree branches.

This is a nice one stamp scene that can make a nice Christmas card.
