The Stampscapes® 101: 10-Step Thumbnail Grid, Tyra Smith Lesson XIV
Cove's Delight

NOTE: Please read through the Masking and Basic Stipple Brush Technique instructions prior to reading the lesson.

Cut a piece of King James Cast Cote Glossy White cardstock to 4.25 x 5.50 inches. Lakeside Cove 049G is stamped with Ranger Archival Jet Black ink on the upper left side, catch about half of the image on your cardstock. This is the beginning of your background landmass.

Complete the background landmass by stamping the Lakeside Cove 049G with Ranger Archival Jet Black ink on the upper right side of your cardstock, slightly overlapping it on the first image you stamped.

To begin your foreground landmass, (this will end up being a small hill located in front of the lake like a bank) Oak Row 223F is stamped with Ranger Archival Jet Black ink at the lower left corner.

To complete the foreground landmass, Oak Row 223F is stamped with Ranger Archival Jet Black ink across the lower right hand area, overlapping your stamp slightly on the one your stamped previously.

Mask your foreground landmass. To create the sky, first stipple Ranger Sea Shells Conch Shell (light yellow) over the entire sky area. Next stipple ranger Vintage Vanilla Bean (medium yellow) from the top of the sky downwards, stopping at the top of the tree line. Stipple Ranger Vintage Honey Almost (light peach) just along the top of the sky area. Blend and smooth all the sky colors by stippling Ranger Sea Shells Conch Shell (light yellow) over the entire sky area.

Stipple Ranger Sea Shells Ocean Aqua (light blue) over the water area, then stipple Ranger Vintage Ocean (slightly darker blue) over the water area. To indicate a slight reflection of the sky on the water, stipple Ranger Vintage Vanilla Bean (Medium yellow) on the water.

Ink Water Pattern Small 231C with Ranger Vintage Ocean, stamp on scrap paper, then stamp on the water area without re-inking your stamp. Repeat as necessary to give the surface of your water the illusion of movement.

Remove masks.
Stipple the foreground landmass ground area with HALOS Box Box (light brown). Lightly stipple Ranger Vintage Citrus Lime on the ground area, then stipple a layer of HALOS Box Brown (light brown) and a layer of Ranger Adirondack Slate (light gray) over the ground area.

For the rocks along the bank of the background landmass: Stipple first a layer of Ranger Adirondack Slate (light gray) followed by a layer of HALOS Box Brown (light brown) For the trees on the background landmass: Stipple over the trees with Ranger Archival Library Green.

For the shrubs along the foreground landmass: Stipple the following colors, in this order, over the shrubs: Ranger Adirondack Lettuce, Ranger Sea Brights Awning Green and Ranger Archival Emerald.

Using a small brush, light brush Ranger Vintage Ocean over the tree shadows on the water. Using a Marvy LePlume #48 Leaf Green Marker, trace over the grass blades by the rocks on the background landmass.

Your piece is now finished and could be used "as is" for a card front. Let's spice it up a bit.

Cut a 5 x 7 inch piece of glossy red cardstock to use for your base cardstock. Use a Krylon Copper Leafing pen to edge all four sides. Set aside.

Take your main piece which you just stippled and cut a 1 inch strip off both the right and left sides, you will now have three "slices" of your landscape piece. Clip all four corners on each slice of the landscape piece. Using a Krylon Copper Leafing Pen, edge all sides of each slice. Center your three "slices" on your base cardstock, affix them to the base cardstock with double sided tape.
