The Stampscapes® 101: 8-Step Thumbnail Grid, Lesson XXVI
Iridescent Lighthouse

Cut Sheer Heaven to 4.25 x 5.50 inches. On the FRONT of Sheer Heaven (the lightly textured side), using Ranger Archival Jet Black, stamp Light, Rocks & Waves 220G in the lower right corner.

Still working on the FRONT of Sheer Heaven, using Ranger Archival Jet Black, stamp Rocks & Waves 235E in the lower left corner to fill out the cliffs and stamp Palm Cluster 100D to the right and left sides of the lighthouse. The Palm Cluster will help to define the line of the horizon. Let dry. A heat gun may be used to speed dry the inks, just be sure to hold it about 6-8 inches above the surface.

Continue working on the FRONT side of the Sheer Heaven. Create and apply masks for the lighthouse and the beam of light coming from the top of the lighthouse. When stippling dye inks on Sheer Heaven, they stipple on lightly and slowly. First stipple Ranger Stamp It Yellow along the line of the horizon. Stipple Ranger Stamp It Periwinkle over the sky area and lightly overlap the blue on the top of the yellow a bit. Then stipple Ranger Vintage Spring Floral over the sky again, to deepen the color of the sky.

Stipple Ranger Sea Shells Ocean Aqua over the water area bringing it up lightly over the bottom edge of the yellow along the horizon. Stipple Ranger Vintage Ocean over the water to further deepen the color.

Remove masks. Lightly stipple Ranger Vintage Vanilla Bean over light beam area. Lightly stipple Ranger Adirondack Bottle over the center/darkest areas of the palm tree tops on the Palm Cluster at both sides of the lighthouse. Lightly stipple Ranger Stamp It Brown over the rocks at the bottom. Cloud Bar 119F is stamped along the upper top portion of the sky using Ranger Vintage Spring Floral. Be sure you do not stamp over the light beam area.

Turn the piece over to work on the BACK (smooth slick side). Using a Ranger Cut 'n Dry Nib and the Ranger Stamp It Brown inkpad, drag the nib across the pad to pick up the color, then lightly color in the darker areas of the rock with the brown. This will add a bit of depth the rocks. Dye inks will dry more slowly on the back of Sheer Heaven, use a heat gun to speed dry if necessary. Make a soft mask and mask the rocks and lighthouse. Water Pattern Small 231C is stamp along the water area using Ranger Vintage Ocean. While the ink is still a bit wet, use your finger and drag it across the stamped water pattern lines to smooth them out and decrease the amount of definition within the lines. This will give you a very soft flowing look to the water from the front. Make sure the piece is dry before continuing.

Turn the piece to the FRONT. Stipple Ranger Adirondack Slate over lighthouse. Use the Ranger Cut 'n Dry Nib and the Ranger Adirondack Slate to brush in the shadows on the lighthouse. Use the Ranger Cut 'n Dry Nib and the Ranger Stamp It Green to brush a bit of green over the round of the Palm Clusters. Ranger Color It Snow White pigment ink is stipple lightly over the "water spray" areas of the rocks below the lighthouse. Pigment ink will dry on Sheer vellum, though it does dry much slower than the dye inks. You may need to use a heat gun to speed dry the pigment ink. Turn piece to BACK - Flock 112A is stamped with Ranger Adirondack Slate in the sky area partly on the area of the light beam. Let Dry, turn piece to the FRONT. Flock 112A is stamped with Ranger Adirondack Slate along the horizon slightly overlapping on the light beam.

Stipple Iridescent Tinting medium lightly over the light beam and the spray of water on the rocks. The iridescent tinting medium gives a beautiful twinkle like light on water drops, though it will not show thru on a scan. To give the piece a frame, Palm Frond Large 124F is stamped with Ranger Adirondack Bottle in all four corners. You could use this piece layered on cardstock for a card front. It would be equally as beautiful mounted as a luminarie piece with a candle behind it.
