Mists of Twilight by Marta French, ME 2005
GEL PENS: Black gel pen. Milky gel pens: white, yellow, peach, pink, blue, green. Metallic gel pens; dark brown, dark green, dark gold/yellow, dark gold/brown, dark "grass" green. TOMBOW MARKERS: #173-"willow green", #249-"hunter green", #942- "tan", #992-"sand", #977-"saddle brown", #947-"burnt sienna", #879- "brown", #N75-"light grey", #N55-"cool grey", #055-"process yellow".
TOOLS: wedge-shaped cosmetic sponges, stylus tool. STAMPS: Lakeside Cove Lg. -049G, sedge filler -251D, sedge cluster- sm. -265D, pine row -150E, buck-Lg. -009B, solo canoeist -159A, water pattern-sm. -231C, oak branch -203G, reeds Lg. -068D.
1. Stamp lakeside cove, sedge cluster sm., sedge filler, and pine row in black ( masking the sedge filler, then stamping only the upper half of pine row ). Then stamp pine row again on scrap paper, then on scene for "faded" trees in the distance.
2. Taking sponge or stylus, and Marvy -"salvia blue", just start sponging, tapping, swirling color in the sky. Don't forget to put color down where water will be for reflections as well.
3. With Seashells -"cloudy blue", repeat "step 2" to darken down the tone, then with stylus tool, lay in "foundation" with "starfish green" on trees, grass, etc.
4. Tombow Markers: "willow green" and "hunter green" were used to add in more color on trees and grass. Tombows "tan", "sand", "saddle brown", "burnt sienna", "brown", "light grey", "cool grey", were used for on rocks and pebbles along the banks. tombow "process yellow" was added to give a "gold" hue to grass ( add this yellow very "lightly" so as not to overdo it )!!
5. Marvy- "light green", and "briiliant yellow" were added to grass -- lightly tapped in using sponge, followed by Marvy "pine green", and "bottle green"--tapped in using sponge to add darker tones.
6. Back to the sky: Seashells-"seashell pink", followed by Marvy- "bubblegum pink"-- start tapping color in with sponge or stylus tool-- ia and around blue that was layed down before--mixing, tapping, swirling, etc., until you get the way you want it. "Purplish" tints where the blues and pinks meet-- is a GOOD THING!!! :0) Then, sponge Seashells- "peach bellini" around pink areas to give the sky a more orangey/pink "POP"!!! Make sure whatever colors you put in the sky, you also put down for reflections in water, too!! :0)
7. To start darkening the edges --to get that "twilight" feel, start with Seashells- "ocean aqua". Sponge or use stylus tool to put ocean aqua around edges and corners --more so in corners. Then go around card afterwards with shades of blue darker than the ones before--as Kevin says--"work from lightest to darkest", right? After "ocean Aqua", here's the colors that I used --in the order as I used them for edges and corners: "pool", "Kaleidacolor Rainbow- "blue breeze", ( used 4 shades of blue from this pad ), ending with Adirondack- "stream". Then switching to "green" colors to add various areas of shading and darkening down of the grassy areas: Marvy- "pine green", "bottle green", ending with "black" sponged all the way around--more in the corners and just enough to darken edges. I go around at least twice with black to get edges nice and dark!!
8. Start adding highlights with milky gel pens to sky, trees, rocks, water, grass, etc. Start with milkys first to ad highlights, then follow with the darker metallics to do shading.
9. Stamp water pattern in Brilliance -"moonlight white" to give a "shimmer" on the water. Stamp buck, solo canoeist, reeds, and oak branch in black.
10. FINALLY!! Last but not least, use stylus tool to add "mist/fog" with "moonlight white" and your done!! :0) -MF
