Morris Island Lighthouse. Charleston, South Carolina
Built in 1767 near Folly Beach. Lighthouse was built just after the French & Indian War, when South Carolina was Still a British Colony. In 1837 the lighthouse was replaced by a new one at a different location. Located near Fort Sumter and stood 102 feet tall. But during the Civil War it was destroyed. As most Lighthouses in the area were destroyed by Confederate Troops as the Lighthouse could be used as a navigation aid by Federal forces.
