The mountains of gold promised by the Conquistadors proved elusive. Years of backbreaking toil and effort had not slaked his gold lust, but magnified it fourfold into a crippling desire. Hidalgo would spill his blood vainly searching for the gold which lay all about him. California gold: rolling hills, oak, sage and vista...a buena vista.
